Understanding Dreams and Visions

This article is designed to guide and teach people the principles of dream and vision interpretation. We want to limit definition of a dream or vision for the purpose of this article to pictures that comes to us in the night while we sleep or unconscious to our physical world, and our minds begin to receive message pictures. Over and over this happens to us, we often discard and sometimes we pay attention to them if has significant features.

For a Christian, God often uses dreams and visions to communicate to us important issues of His Kingdom. Dreams are mysteries, and they have underlying meaning.

There are accounts in the bible where people dreamt and a meaning was attached to it. Joseph son of Jacob had dreams in his early life, and these contain information about his future

And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. 
And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: 
For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. 
And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. 

Dreams come with a meaning. Pharaoh, and different kings in the bible had dreams and it has meaning. The interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream saved a whole nation from a worldwide famine for 7-years. In the New Testament Joseph the foster father of our Lord Jesus Christ was warned in a dream to take the baby Jesus Christ to Egypt so that His live maybe preserved. So understanding the interpretation of a dream is important to align to the will of God, and at the same time frustrate the plan of the evil one.

One of the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to show us the future and guide us into all truth
John 16:13-14(KJV)
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. 
He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. 

There are three revelational gifts of the Holy Spirits, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge and discerning of the spirits. 1 Corith12:8,10. Please note “word of” part of.

How to verify genuine vision from God.

Not all vision/dream is from God. One sure way to verify a dream or vision is from the God; is to confirm the origin or counterpart copy from the word of God the Bible. Example the dream that came to Joseph take the young Child and the mother flee to Egypt in the New Testament Mat2:13, will fulfil a scripture in the Old Testament Hosea11:1.. ,and called my son out of Egypt.

The Principle of Interpretation of Dreams/Vision

Before you can understand a dream or vision from God you must be born again and have received the gift of the Holy Spirit that will guide you to the meaning. Because dreams are books sealed

And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:  It is sealed for two reason. The First reason of sealing a dream is to confirm the authenticity of the Author which is God, who utters hidden things through mystery (His official language of communication) Matthew 13:35(KJV) That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world. .

The second reason why Dreams are sealed is such it does not get counterfeited or faked on the road before it get to the recipient or beneficiary. God send his word in pictures from third heaven to his servants the prophet who are beneficiaries of this word are on earth, and He wants to hide it so that His foe(Satan) does not look inside of it or understand His plan. Amos 3:7(KJV) Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. 

Now that you know why dreams and vision come in the format sealed, and then it is a book Isa29:11. The first step to interpret a dream is to write it down in your own words. Put it down in a book or write it on a computer. Every part of that dreams written has symbolic meaning to you and it has link to the word of God. Students who understand dreams must have copious level of the written scriptures in memory. For example you see yourself in the dream and you are carrying a gun or pistol; that is a symbol of the Word of God: the Sword of the Spirit Ephesians 6:17(KJV) …, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 

Now the circumstances you are carrying the gun in that dream suggest what you will do with word of God to the situation at hand.

By the time you discover the other leg of your dream in the bible, it make a whole lot of meaning to you.

Another level of interpretation of the Dream is this, when you pray in tongues, and you have in mind the dream you dreamt, the Holy Spirit can flash a scripture to you that will explain the dream, or suggest a bible story that will explain the dream to you.

Three Important ingredients of Dreams written down.

1. When you document your dreams or vision in a book, you have gathered spiritual facts known as knowledge
2. When you align the facts in your dream/vision to make a meaning out of it, it is called spiritual understanding.(Linking your dream and it symbol to the word of God)
3. When you put to action the understanding you have gotten from aligning the fact you got from you dream, it is called spiritual wisdom.

If you are still living in the flesh, that is engaging in the sins of the flesh, like immorality and the likes, you cannot gain spiritual wisdom and understanding. It for those who fear the Lord, for the secret of the Lord is with them who fear him and them will he show his covenant Ps25:14
