Prophetic Fulfilment of the Feast of Trumpet (Yom Teruah)
When Israel left Egypt it took them a space of three months to arrive to Mount Sinai otherwise called Horeb where Moses received the commandment, and God came down visibly on the mount the 70 Elders saw different dimensions of God from the base of the mountain while Moses was called up to the mountain top to receive a moral, ceremonial and sacrificial laws for a people who newly came out of bondage in Egypt. No nation can exist without rules and regulations. So God in a way to adopt Israel nation as His own showed them His manner of life by giving the descendants of His friend Abraham the way He lives His own life.
History has it that amongst the inventions and advancement of Human History on earth, the Jews gave the world the knowledge of the Almighty God whose name is YHWH translated to Jehovah. This God is powerful defending His own by The Feat and Renown He achieved in Egypt and Crossing Israel across the Red Sea. For the sake of emphasis and the purpose of this topic before us, prophetic fulfilment of the feast of trumpet, we shall streamline our discussion on the ceremonial laws given to Children of Israel as the Feast of Jehovah.
The Seven Feast of Jehovah Leviticus 23:4-43
God likes keeping good memorials because these 7-feasts we are going to discuss were born out of memorial God kept in His dealing with Israel out of Egypt on their way to promise land. It is also reminder for each of us our lives on earth has special marks and days in the book of God.
- The Feast of Passover (Hebrew name Pesach): Lev23:5, this is the first feast or ceremony in the Religious calendar held in the month called Abib or the first month. This feast is held on the 14th Day of the month Abib. It is a memorial of a lamb killed and the blood used on the sides of a door post and lintel of every Jewish home in Egypt. When the angel that came to kill the firstborns in Egypt saw this blood on the sides of door post and lintel, He passed over sparing the lives of Jewish firstborn. It reminded the Israelites of their deliverance from Egypt when death passed their homes, and also marks the beginning of their month. This feast is still held annually till date in Israel, but Paul reminded us in the new covenant it is a shadow of the real thing, and real thing is Christ.
- The Feast of Unleavened Bread (Hebrew name Chag Ha Matzot): Lev23:6-8. This ceremonial feast commences on 15th of the month of Abib, Israel will eat bread for 7-days without yeast. It a memorial how quickly Israel left Egypt: they were in haste to leave Egypt; hence they could not add yeast to their bread. Tradition has it that Israel journeyed for seven 7-days out of the reach of the Egyptian. Note yeast is a representation of sin in the bible. 1Cor5:8
- The Feast of First Fruit (Hebrew name Bikkurim): Lev23:9-14 This Feast is held a day after the Sabbath of Passover. It was to celebrate first ripening of the barley harvest and the harvest of the first food they found when they came into the land of promise. This also is celebrated in the month of Abib because Israel entered into the promise land on the 10th of the first month Josh4:19
- The Feast of Weeks or Pentecost (Hebrew name Shavuot): Lev23:15-21. This is another feast of harvest, but this one is the harvest of wheat presented to the Priest. It is called Pentecost ( 50), because it held 50-days after the feast of first fruit. It is a memorial of God coming down on Mount Sinai and revealing the law to Moses. There was visible fire on the Mount that day, sound of trumpet and thundering Exo19:17-20)
- The Feast of Trumpet (Hebrew name Yom Teruah) Lev23:24-25 This Feast is held on the First Day of The Seventh Month in the Religious Calendar called Tishri. It is also marked as Israel Beginning of New Year in their civil calendar Rosh Hashanah, a day which two witnesses confirms the sighting of a new moon and go to the Sanhedrin in the temple who will officially declare the commencement of the Feast after running some rituals according to Jewish Talmud( written Jewish oral tradition/law). This day is a Memorial of blowing Trumpet. It is a special day in Israel, significance of blowing the shofar that is the ram’s horn.
- The Feast of Atonement (Hebrew name Yom Kippur): Lev23:26-32. This feast is held on the 10th day of the seventh month, It is the only day the high priest enters inside the Holy of Holies to atone for the national sin of Israel once every year
- The Feast of Tabernacle (Hebrew name Sukkot) Lev23:33-42 this feast is held for a period of seven days starting from the 15th day of the seventh month. It is a memorial that Israel lived in booths when they came out of Egypt. During the feast Israel will live in booth made with palm branches and other tree branches Neh8:15.
The Prophetic
Fulfilment of these seven feasts as a plan to establish the Kingdom of God on
earth, Amos 3:6-7(KJV) Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he
revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. God used
these seven feasts to outline His Plan and purpose for the redemption of man
using Israel as a prototype. That is why Paul in his epistle to the Colossians,
said that these feasts and other holydays are shadows or types of the real
thing.
Colossians 2:16-17(KJV) Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of
an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come;
but the body is of Christ.
Out of the Seven Feast, four have been fulfilled in their orders by Christ at His first advent that is why we believe that the remaining three will also be fulfilled by Christ at His second advent in its order.
- The Feast of Passover Fulfilled. 1 Corinthians 5:7(KJV) Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Jesus Christ came to fulfil the law and not to destroy it. Christ was crucified the evening before Passover, and thus fulfilled the entire sacrificial law requirement for purging and remission of sins. Hence the old Passover need not to be observed since it has been fulfilled; continual observance simply means outright denial of completed work of Christ on the cross of Calvary or ignorance of the new dispensation we are in.
The Chart Below gives comprehensive understanding that Exodus Passover was a preview of what Christ came to fulfil
The Old Testament Passover | The crucifixion of Jesus on Passover |
A lamb was taken into house on the tenth day of Abib Exo12:3 | Jesus entered the temple on the tenth day of Abib |
The Lamb was a young male without blemish Exo12:5 | Pilate found no fault (Blemish) in Christ |
The lamb was examined for 4 days | Jesus was tested by the leaders for 4-days |
The lamb was slaughtered on the 14th of Abib | Jesus was crucified on the 14th of Abib |
The lamb was killed at 3pm (between the evenings) | Jesus died at 3pm (the ninth hour) Mark15:25-38 |
The Lamb was tied to a wooden pole | Jesus was crucified on a wooden cross |
- The Feast of Unleavened
Bread fulfilled:
1 Corinthians 5:7-8(KJV)
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
Christ the sinless sacrifice (without leaven) was in the tomb during this appointed feast. Paul the Apostle whom Jesus revealed the details of the new covenant said we celebrate this feast when we are separated from sin and dead to works of the flesh. This is a type of the second work of grace called the sanctification experience. Christ has fulfilled this feast and its true essence is that there is a provision in the new covenant that can keep you from old self when you truly believe the Gospel, and you are completely off the influence of Egypt and Satan, so that you can serve the Living God with your conscience purged from dead works, Eph2:1-5. This, you can truly experience when you ask God in faith through prayer that you desire this sanctification experience after conversion.
- Feast
of First Fruit Fulfilled: 1 Corinthians 15:23(KJV)
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. Jesus rose on from the dead on the day this feast is celebrated in Israel, thus he became the first fruit from the dead, and thus fulfilled it. It is also a reminder that all who believe in Him will resurrect one day they way Christ rose in his on order as the first fruit. - The Feast of Weeks or Pentecost fulfilled: Acts 2:1-4(KJV) And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
This Feast is celebrated 50-days after the First Fruit. Exactly 50-days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the tomb, the Holy Spirit descended upon 120 disciples and that was the birth of the Christian Church in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. The First Pentecost is a reflection of the future day of Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came down, Hence the believer in Christ can also experience baptism of the Holy Spirit
The Pentecost in Moses Time Exo19 | The Pentecost in Peter’s Time Acts2 |
Moses and 70 Elders were in mount Sinai | Believers were in mount Zion |
God’s voice issued forth as a flame of fire | Tongues of Fire descended upon them |
The mountain shook and quacked | A sound came like a rushing mighty wind |
Three thousand were slain for worshipping idol | Three thousand were converted to Messiah |
The above four Feast has been fulfilled in their order, remaining the fulfilment of the last 3-feasts that is Trumpet, Atonement and Tabernacle. The last feast was fulfilled in spring of (about) 30 A.D. From that time till now is a dispensation, which was hidden in the Old Testament which is a mystery Paul talked about in Rom16:25, Eph3:2-6, and Col1:27. It is a time frame God made the eyes of the Jews partially blind the day he triumphantly entered Jerusalem Luk19:42, so that the Gentiles will accept the gospel of Jesus, and thus become partaker of the covenant that God struck with Abraham. And this Current Dispensation will end when the last Gentile chosen by divine election is cropped into the Kingdom Romans 11:25(KJV) For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
- Prophetic
Fulfilment of the Feast of Trumpet: 1
Corinthians 15:51-54(KJV)
Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
This Feast is a memorial of blowing the Shofar or the rams horn. There are many reasons of blowing the shorfa in Israel. Like coronation a king in Israel requires anointing the head of the king, cloth placed on the ground for him and horse to match, and finally the blowing of the trumpet, 1King1:34, 2King9:13 Jesus had these two experiences during his first advent. Jesus went into a far country to be crowned as king and return Luk19:12. At the fulfilment of the feast of Trumpet, it hold imagery of the return of Jesus as King, and He is coming for the bride, the Gentile bride He had paid the bride price since 2000-years ago, But He is coming to take her on a nuptial flight to the place he had prepared for her John14:1-2. One striking Prophetic word is what Paul quoted in 1 Cor15:52……. at the Last trump…..
During the Feast of trumpet held on the first day of the month of Tishri, The Jewish Talmud document for us the rituals that Jews perform. One the Feast day, the Shofar is blown 100 times. There are three distinct sounds made with the shofar. The first is known as Tekiah and it is one long straight blast. The second is Shevaim is three short blasts. The third is Teruah which is nine quick blasts in short successions. So these three different blasts are blown 3 times, that makes nine blast of Shofar. This process is then repeated 11-times. It is the 11 cycles of these nine shofar blasts; so when you add up together it will sum upto 99 shofar blasts. The Final blast known as Tekiah Gedoliah, the 100th blast is claimed to be known as “the last trump”. So when we read a rapture verse like 1Cor15:52, this specific event known as the last trump, as it is being implied here is that this event will occur when the feast of trumpet is prophetically fulfilled just as the other 4 spring feast where fulfilled in their old testament shadows in the new covenant. Please Note that Paul who is very familiar with the Jewish tradition was writing an epistle to the Corinthians believer revealing Old Testament type in the New. The Fulfilment of this Feast is what I call current issue in the Kingdom of God, because it is the next agenda in the calendar of God. New Testament explains the Old Testament, and the Old Testament Shadow confirms the New Testament.
- Prophetic Fulfilment of
the Feast of Atonement:
Zechariah 3:9-10(KJV)
For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree. This Feast holds on a day, when the national sin of Israel will be forgiven in a day. It also holds a picture image of the coming judgment of God known as tribulation. It will last for three and half years ending with physical appearance of Christ on mount Olive east side of Jerusalem. The Part of Isaiah61:2…and the day of vengeance of our God. Which Jesus did not quote during His First coming Luk4:19 will be quoted then. Another important idea about this day, it will serve as a day of Jubilee, 10th of the seventh month when everyone returns to his own inheritance and family in the 50th year. Leviticus 25:8-10(KJV) And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.
Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family. - Prophetic Fulfilment of
the Feast of Tabernacle: Zechariah 14:16-19(KJV)
And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. This feast pictures the 1000 year reign of Christ in Jerusalem, where He will be sitting on the throne of David. And this is only feast that will continue to be celebrated all through the millennium. Hence other feast when fulfilled they need not to be celebrated again
God bless you.
